This is the eighth post in a daily series. Read about it here and see the list of previous posts here. A new post about “Star Wars” will be posted every day for 40 days leading up to the franchise’s 40th birthday on May 25th.

There are multiple YouTube videos where users have edited movie scenes to change swords to lightsabers. Because, well, because. It’s YouTube, and the Internet, and those kind of pop culture mashups are bread and butter for the medium.

So it’s not surprising that multiple people would have dedicated themselves to remaking “Game of Thrones” scenes with lightsabers in place of swords. But “Game of Thrones,” more than other movie or TV series, lends itself to “Star Wars” makeovers. Both “Star Wars” and “Game of Thrones” are fantasy series in highly defined worlds that draw a lot from classical myths, world religions, and medieval history, among other things.

On top of that, the sword fights in “Game of Thrones” were already epic, shot in a sweeping way that felt more cinematic than other TV fare.

So without further ado, here are some of our favorite “Game of Thrones” scenes with lightsabers in place of swords.
