This is the 11th post in a daily series. Read about it here and see the list of previous posts here. A new post about “Star Wars” will be posted every day for 40 days leading up to the franchise’s 40th birthday on May 25th.
CinemaSins is a YouTube channel dedicated to pointing out inconsistencies, plot holes, and general weaknesses among movies. Each video on the channel focuses on a different movie, with a narrator offering snarky commentary tallying up the movie’s “sins,” from beginning to end. It has a dash of “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” but unlike that series, CinemaSins’ “Everything Wrong With…” videos don’t play the entirety of the movies. It’s a series of quick barbs and jokes that spans over minutes, not hours.
The channel has reviewed all sorts of movies, but the videos exposing the sins of the “Star Wars” movies might be the best. It’s obvious that these guys are fan boys who geek out on the movies.
CinemaSins gained a lot of exposure when Kevin Smith mentioned it in a tweet, so the folks at CinemaSins invited him to join them on the video about “A New Hope.”

With the prequels, the CinemaSins crew had to make two videos per movie, because, well, there was a lot to work with there.

It speaks to the quality of “The Force Awakens” that the CinemaSins folks only needed one video to tally its sins.

CinemaSins even reviewed “The Clone Wars,” the animated movie set between Episodes II and III.

The guys behind CinemaSins seem to have a good sense of humor, such that they were willing to do a video pointing out their own sins.

The CinemaSins channel has even inspired a CinemaWins channel that’s not affiliated with CinemaSins. The thrust of this channel is to point of the positives of movies, and while it has some funny parts, the videos about the prequels seem focused on earnestly defending the movies. There’s some humor to them, but they won’t make you cackle the way you would when hearing Kevin Smith talking about bear bars. As one does.
