Recently, a friend of the Pop Culture Experiment posed an open question on Facebook: “What songs do you listen to that make you feel good about yourself, worthy, and loved?”
He got dozens of suggestions, which didn’t surprise me. But what did surprise me — though it probably shouldn’t have — was how excited everyone in the thread was to read everyone else’s suggestions. It surprised me because sometimes, those open-ended threads can be an impersonal sea of people chiming in with ideas without engaging with each other. But on this thread, strangers were not only engaging with each other, but doing so with fervor. And that shouldn’t have surprised me, because who doesn’t want to have more songs that will make us all feel good, worthy, and loved? We all want to feel those things, right?
After having made the “Love Letters” breakup mix, I thought I’d make a mix of songs based on that original question my friend asked. You can get these songs that make you feel good about yourself, worthy, and loved here, though the playlist is also embedded below.
Not surprisingly, this song has some familiar songs from the Cover Songs Uncovered series:
Of course, it’s not a definitive list. There are a few others I could have used. What are some of your go-to songs that make you feel good about yourself, worthy, and loved? Let me know in the comments.
